The 117th Air Refueling Wing’s KC-135 Stratotankers as seen from a CH-47 Chinook that belongs to Bravo Company, a 1-169th Aviation, Alabama Army National Guard, on Oct. 12, 2023, at Sumpter Smith Joint National Guard Base, Alabama. The members of the Army National Guard’s 1-169 AVN sometimes offer Chinook flights to the Airmen of the 117 ARW as a way for their Soldiers to practice having passengers onboard and for Airmen in non-aviation roles a chance to fly; enabling both units to take full advantage of the joint environment that they work in.
