Memorial Event Held at Sumpter Smith ANGB

A memorial run to honor the fallen Airmen aboard Shell 77 was held today here at the 117th Air Refueling Wing and hosted by Team Birmingham Booster Club.

Tech. Sgt. Herman “Tre” Mackey III, Capt. Victoria A. Pinckery and Capt. Mark Tyler Voss of call sign “Shell 77” perished after their KC-135R Stratotanker crashed in Kyrgyzstan during Operation Enduring Freedom on May 3, 2013.

Participants were allowed to run or walk as many laps on the track as they wanted.

“The goal is to complete 77 cumulative miles on Sumpter Smith ANG Base.” said Tech. Sgt. Wes Pittman of the 99th Air Refueling Squadron.

The run began at 8:30 at the base track and ended at 9:45 with the participants exceeding their goal by logging a total of 110 combined miles.
