Five Airmen from the 117th Air Refueling Wing joined the effort here to help Alabama residents affected by the winter weather event on Jan. 16-17, 2018.

Capt. Jeff Farmer, Senior Master Sgt. Richard Bailey, Senior Master Sgt. Chris Ray, Master Sgt. Mark Salmon and Staff Sgt. Bradley White travelled to Anniston to assist the Alabama Emergency Management Agency Division Golf in both logistical and administrative duties.

The ALAEMA provided assistance to citizens of Alabama during the winter emergency. The state was impacted by a winter weather event that caused several roadways and interstates to be deemed impassable due to hazardous ice, which eventually prompted Gov. Kay Ivey to declare a state of emergency.

We were deployed to help with the EMA’s duties during the storm, and also to help anticipate and streamline potential issues in future operations where Airmen are deployed in such short notice, said Bailey.

Farmer, Bailey and White are all assigned to the 117th Civil Engineering Squadron. Salmon is assigned to the 117th Intelligence Squadron and Ray is assigned to the 117th Maintenance Squadron.
